Over 47 days Hawks Senior Coach Alastair Clarkson will share his thoughts on each player on the Hawthorn list - from guernsey number 48 to 2.

What Clarko says

26. Liam Shiels

All Hawks fans would have followed the progress of young Liam Shiels throughout the 2011 season, and since cementing his spot in the side, we're really happy with his progress.

'Shielsy's' been at our Club for three seasons now, and in that time he's played over 40 games of football.

He came to us as the youngest player in the competiton when we drafted him at the end of 2008, and he played senior footy in his first year when he was still completing his VCE.

In the last two years, Liam has been able to take some great steps to become a regular player in our side; he's a tough and tenacious player and he's got an enormous work ethic and great discipline with the way he goes about his footy.

He showed us those characteristics as an under 18s player in the Eastern Ranges which have continued into his AFL career at the Hawks.

We expect Liam to feature prominently throughout season 2012 in a midfield that will hopefully challenge the best in the competition and provide enough forward-thrust to kick enough goals to get us into the finals and the top four.

From there, who knows what will happen in the later stages of the season.

We feel that Liam has shown fans, teammates and coaches at the Club that he's going to be a long-term player for the Hawks.

Tomorrow we feature guernsey number 25 in Ryan Schoenmakers, so check back to our summer series analysing our 2012 playing list from number 48 through to number 2.
