#1 Harry Conlon
The #1 Fan for Round 4 was member Harry Conlon from Kalgoorlie, Western Australia...
43 year old Harry has been a loyal Hawks member for 4 years and supporter since he was a young boy.
The Club was recently made aware of Harry’s recent past by Cassandra White, the executive director of Miners’ Promise, a legacy organisation established to assist families within the resources sector who have come across some hard times.
After heading into work one weekend, Harry, who worked in the mining industry, suffered a total and permanent injury when repairing some machinery on site.
The injuries Harry suffered were horrific and he is extremely lucky to be alive today. His family were preparing for the worst after specialists advised that he would not pull through.
Two and a half years after later, Harry has just completed his final operations, however, he lives in constant pain and will never be able to return to work.
Saturday’s game against West Coast was only the second game Harry had seen live - the first being 10 years ago when the Hawks played Collingwood at the MCG.
Harry’s favourite Hawks game is the 1989 Grand Final victory over Geelong and his favourite current-day player is Jarryd Roughead.
When asked about his #1 fan experience, Harry said “running water to the player while they trained is something I could have only dreamed of. I’m so grateful to everyone at the Hawks for this experience.”
Coach Alastair Clarkson meets #1 Fan, Harry Conlon.
Harry hands Cameron Bruce a drink during training.
Alastair Clarkson tells Harry's story and introduces him to the team that travelled to Perth.
