Crawf's That's What I'm Walkin' About
Cheer on Shane Crawford as he completes his 780km marathon journey from Adelaide to Melbourne.
One of Hawthorn's favourite sons Shane Crawford is in the final stages of his epic That’s What I’m Walkin’ About journey on foot from Adelaide to Melbourne.
Crawford left Adelaide 11 days ago and will take the last steps of his 780-kilometre trek live on The Footy Show on Thursday night at 9.30pm on Channel Nine.
Having averaged 65 kilometres a day, Crawford is on track to reach the outskirts of Melbourne’s western industrial fringe at dusk today.
He will resume this morning along a route that takes in Geelong Road, Brooklyn, Somerville Road, Yarraville, and Docklands Highway (Footscray Road) before making his way along the Yarra River at South Wharf.
When he reaches Crown Towers hotel Crawford will pause for a pit-stop to refuel, catch up with his family and enjoy a well-earned massage.
Later this evening Crawf will embark on the final phase of the inaugural That’s What I’m Walkin’ About ultra-marathon to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer survivors around the country.
Melburnians are expected to be out in force cheering Crawford along his last leg, which will see him run along the banks of the Yarra, through Birrarung Marr, then along Swan Street before making his final turn into Bendigo Street, Richmond, and the Channel Nine studios.
“This has been one of the most amazing experiences of my life,” said the 1999 Brownlow medallist.
“I’ve been completely overwhelmed by the support and generosity of spirit of the thousands of people I passed along the way. Not only have people made generous donations, they’ve made me food, offered me shelter and even their loo.”
Crawford’s journey has taken him through more than 80 country towns including Murray Bridge, Tailem Bend, Keith, Bordertown, Nhill, Dimboola, Horsham, Stawell, Horsham, Ararat and Ballarat.
Donations along the way and corporate contributions have raised $400,000 so far and it’s promising to be a massive total.
All money raised goes to Breast Cancer Network Australia which works to ensure women affected by breast cancer receive the best information, treatment, care and support possible.
Donations can still be made by visiting the That's What I'm Talkin' About page.
All donations go directly to the Breast Cancer Network Australia.
Be sure to tune in to the Footy Show tonight at 9.30pm on Channel 9 for Crawf's last stages of the marathon.
