Across its 96 seasons in the VFL/AFL, Hawthorn would have had many of its campaigns described as a rollercoaster.
But, we would suggest 2020 would take the cake for rollercoaster years... and we're only halfway through the home and away season!
So, we thought we'd take a look at how the Hawks are tracking to this mid-point of the season.
Hardwick: It feels like you're at the 'G
The team's form
The Hawks entered the league's near-three-month hiatus inside the top four after a superb win over Brisbane in the season opener.
The season's restart down the highway in Geelong wasn't so pretty, but the side bounced back over the following fortnight to record wins over Richmond and North Melbourne.
After four games, Alastair Clarkson's side had three wins and a solitary loss to its name, good for fourth place on the ladder.
Then, the club shifted to Sydney.
Four games in 20 days, all failing to garner a win, with GWS, Collingwood, Melbourne and then Sydney all managing to get the better of the brown and gold.
But, in this strange season, a five-hour flight west proved the change required for the side to snap out of its cold spell.
Last Friday night's win over Carlton saw the Hawks move to four wins and five losses on the year, whilst also maintaining its perfect record at Optus Stadium - the venue for the club's next two appearances.
14th place isn't a flattering spot to be as it stands, but wins over those in second and third positions currently should be cause for optimism as the side turns for home.
The stats stand-outs
It's a hard one to pick who would be leading the Peter Crimmins Medal count to this point in the season.
James Sicily averages more intercept possessions than any other player in the competition whilst also ranking inside the game's top eight for total rebound 50s, metres gained, intercept marks and marks.
He has done his reputation as one of the game's elite defenders no harm so far this season.
Tom Mitchell has won two club best and fairest awards before and the renowned ball-getter seems to be building towards his best each week.
He has recorded the seventh-most disposals of any player this season, with three of the players ahead of him having played an extra game.
Chad Wingard and Jaeger O'Meara have also been consistent performers for the Hawks so far, while Jack Gunston has quietly put together a productive campaign as well.
Injury watch
Another cause for optimism is the Hawks relatively vacant medical room.
With just four names on the current injury list, the Hawks have the equal-least populated list alongside Gold Coast.
The four includes Shaun Burgoyne, who is considered a 'test' following a hamstring scare against the Blues.
Joining him are Jon Patton (hamstring) who will be eyeing a return in the coming weeks, while Ricky Henderson has been sidelined with a knee injury.
Young Hawk Will Golds won't be seen this year after he ruptured his ACL earlier in 2020.
What's next?
The Hawks have a bye in Round 10, enjoying an extended lay-off before their clash with Fremantle on Monday night.
Also fixtured with a bye this round, the Dockers will be bristling with confidence following their upset win over Collingwood on Sunday.
The Eagles will then await as the Hawks next assignment.
