CEO Justin Reeves has penned the following letter to members...

Yesterday we came up against a serious finals contender in St Kilda. We certainly had our opportunities and had we kicked more accurately in the last quarter who knows what may have been. We always give all our efforts to get the four points, and although we came up short, we certainly couldn’t question the efforts of our team. Despite feeling disappointed that we didn’t get the win, the game gave us some glimpses into the silver linings we are looking for.

It’s always exciting to see another debutant don the Brown and Gold. Damon Greaves looked cool and calm on debut. Scrimshaw was again solid down back. Will Day was back where he left off after a week on the sidelines and Worpel, Cousins and Lewis all displayed moments that fill us all with hope for the future.

Yesterday was the youngest side we have fielded so far in 2020. This should fill Hawks fans with a lot of hope. We lacked experience and some polish but we competed hard and we never gave in.

This was all we can ask for and all we continue to ask for for in these final two games. Yes, a win is what we search for, but our focus is firmly on building to 2021 and beyond. These final games are about knowing where we are headed and celebrating the moments that prove we are on the right path. Like a Mitch Lewis pack mark or a Scrimshaw intercept mark.

Sadly, we will be without Worps for the remainder of the season with a shoulder injury. But he is an absolute professional and will do everything he can to make sure he is back fit and firing next season.

We need to be patient and stick fat as we blood new players and build important experience into those who are just starting their careers. They will be well supported by more experienced players around them, as is the Hawthorn way. There was plenty to like about this week and I’m sure there will be plenty more to like next week when we take on the Bulldogs at Adelaide Oval.
Thanks for your support of Hawthorn this year and always. We cannot wait for the day we run out onto an MCG full of the brown and gold army, but until that time let’s focus on finding the silver linings.

Go Hawks!
