The 2023 season marked James Blanck’s first full year in the AFL system after arriving to the club in the 2022 mid-season draft. Often tasked with playing against the opposition’s best key forward, Blanck’s physicality and effort were on clear display in 2023. At just 22 years of age, Blanck appears to have all the tools to become the club’s key defender, with his strong ability to compete in the air. His strong form earned him a new contract at the start of this year, but unfortunately the youngster injured his knee during the pre-season, meaning he will be on sidelines for the entirety of the 2024 season.
