Hawthorn will head to Devonport this weekend to take on Richmond as part of the 2022 AAMI Community Series.

The Hawks will host the Tigers at Devonport Oval in a tribute match for those affected by the horrific accident at Hillcrest Primary School in north-west Tasmania late last year.

It will mark the club's second, and final, pre-season match up before its season opener on Sunday 20 March against North Melbourne.

All funds raised from the tribute match will go directly to the Hillcrest Community Public Fund which has been established to provide ongoing care and help deliver a series of initiatives in support of the Hillcrest Primary School Community.

The sold-out game will be broadcast live on Fox Footy.

Last time we met:

Hawthorn (83) draw Richmond (83)Round 23, 2021

After Hawthorn looked in control for most of the match, a late flurry of goals for Richmond left the game ending in a draw.

It was the first draw played between the two since they began playing against each other in 1925.

In his 150th game, Tom Mitchell finished the match with 36 touches and four clearances, while Tyler Brockman was the leading scorer for the Hawks, finishing with three goals in a promising performance.

Chad Wingard, Jaeger O'Meara, Conor Nash and Ben McEvoy were also named among the Hawks best, while Jack Ross, Jayden Short, David Astbury, Tom Lynch and Shai Bolton were important for the Tigers.

Our last game:

Hawthorn took on Collingwood in its first pre-season match last Friday which finished in a draw following a unique format of six-terms. Each team brought more than 45 players – including a handful of VFL-listed players – to the practice game.

The Pies made an early statement against the Hawks, generating a sizeable lead in the opening four terms before Hawthorn fought their way back into the contest in the final two terms.

Jack Gunston and James Sicily made successful returns following long stints on the sidelines due to injuries, with Sicily finishing as the leading disposal-getter on the day recording 27 to his name.

Last year's No.7 draft pick Josh Ward was a standout for Hawthorn with 15 disposals, three marks and four clearances.

Recruit Max Lynch battled hard to record 19 disposals and 28 hit outs, while draftees Connor MacDonald (17 disposals) and Ned Long (20 disposals, one goal) were also impressive.

Opposition analysis:

Richmond had a tight tussle with Geelong in its practice match at GMHBA Stadium last weekend, with the Cats outlasting the Tigers in an extended six periods of play.

The yellow and black had control for the majority of the match, leading after four quarters before VFL players took to the field.

Star Tiger Dustin Martin played his first hit out since suffering a lacerated kidney late last year, while the match also marked Ivan Soldo's long-awaited return to football.
