Hawthorn has confirmed its extended squad for Sunday’s blockbuster Round 1 clash against Essendon at the MCG.

The Hawks are set to unleash exciting recruits Karl Amon, Lloyd Meek and Fergus Greene, along with draftee Cam Mackenzie for his first taste of senior football.

MACKENZIE TO DEBUT IN SEASON OPENER

General Manager of Football Rob McCartney said Mackenzie’s call-up comes on the back of an impressive first few months at the club.

“We are thrilled to see Cam earn his opportunity to debut for Hawthorn,” McCartney said.

“In only a few short months since being drafted, Cam has demonstrated he’s a fast learner and has an incredible appetite for hard work.

“He is clearly a special youngster and hasn’t looked out of place in our midfield mix, showing flashes of what’s to come right across our practice matches.

“First games are special moments, so we are really excited for Cam that he will make his debut in front of family and friends at the MCG.”

Meanwhile, experienced Hawks Chad Wingard and Sam Frost are also set to make their return for the first time since Round 13 last year.

Young gun James Worpel also re-joins the 26-man squad after missing the end of the 2022 season due a shoulder injury.

Hawthorn will announce its Round 1 team on Friday at 5pm on www.hawthornfc.com.au and across its Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.
