Hawthorn will welcome the return of the coveted RSAC Tassie Hawks Cup this week.
Joining forces with Tasmania’s Road Safety Advisory Council (RSAC), the two-day gala event across Tuesday and Wednesday will see some of the state’s brightest young footballing talent battle it out take home the famous cup.
The RSAC Tassie Hawks Cup features school students across Year 9 and 10 and has been held annually since 2008.
Following a horror five-year trend of increasing road fatalities in Tasmania, Hawthorn’s partnership with RSAC seeks to promote safe driving behaviours among learner drivers and general road users.
Tasmania’s road toll for the first six months of 2023 has seen a 28.8 per cent reduction in deaths compared to last year, and Hawthorn is proud of its contribution to this positive behavioural change.
However, any death on the road is one too many, highlighting the importance of Tasmania’s commitment to the National Road Safety Strategy.
Competing schools include Prospect High School, Clarence High School, Devonport High School, St Virgil’s College and St Brendan-Shaw College.
The gala days will see each regional finalist play each other in a tri-series format with the RSAC Tassie Hawks Cup and final match being played at around 1.30pm on each day.
Tasmanian member of the Legislative Assembly Nick Duigan will present the cup and the medals on Wednesday at 2.30pm.
