Hawthorn midfielder James Worpel has claimed a Round 17 Goal of the Year nomination for his stunning first-quarter major against the Cats on Saturday.

Worpel's goal came in the dying-minute of the opening term at GMHBA Stadium, where the crafty midfielder weaved his way through a couple of Geelong defenders to send it long from the 50-metre arc.

The 25-year-old also amassed an equal game-high 26 disposals and game-high seven clearances against the Cats.
