Jack Gunston and Luke Breust will etch another chapter to their glittering brown and gold careers after the beloved premiership pair put pen to paper for the 2025 season.
For Gunston, the one-year deal sets the platform for a remarkable 16th season at the highest level, which has included three premierships, All Australian honours, and Hawthorn’s most coveted individual accolade, a Peter Crimmins Medal.
Gunston’s impact on and off the field has been profound this season, in addition to helping foster the next generation of Hawthorn forwards, the 32-year-old sharpshooter has booted 28 goals from 16 games this season, including two hauls of four, and a bag of five.
With Breust to embark upon his 16th year in the brown and gold in 2025, he’s now placed to become just the ninth Hawk in the club’s storied history to reach the magical 300-game milestone (should he not hit the milestone in this year’s AFL Finals Series first).
Currently on 298 games, Breust’s one-year extension will see him add to an already sizeable legacy at the club, where he’s among just seven Hawks to have booted more than 500 goals.
Like Gunston, Breust too has played a crucial role in mentoring the new wave of Hawthorn goal-kickers, whilst also having significant influence on game-day, with the co-vice captain booting 20 majors from 17 games this season (remarkably starting as the sub in 10 of those matches).
Hawthorn National Recruiting and List Manager Mark McKenzie said the newly re-signed pair would play an important role next season.
“To see the way that Jack and Luke continue to make their mark on our young group gives us enormous confidence that they will provide immense value in 2025,” McKenzie said.
“While they both have proven they can still contribute at a high level on the field this year, we know that their influence extends much further than just on match day, with their knowledge and wisdom vital to the development of our younger players.”
“Given their standing as celebrated premiership heroes, I’m sure the Hawthorn faithful will be eager to see them go around again next season.”
