Hawthorn ruck Lucy Wales has committed to the brown and gold for a further two years, re-signing until at least the end of 2027.

An inaugural Hawk, Wales was selected by the Hawks with Pick 22 in the 2022 AFLW Draft and made her debut in Round 1 of Season 7 (2022).

Over her first three seasons, Wales has missed just one game, representing the brown and gold 32 times to date.

Last season, Wales cemented her status as among the AFLW’s best rucks, racking up the third-most hitouts in the league across the year (336), at an average of 25.8 per game.

This included her career-best performance of 43 hitouts against Fremantle in Week 6.

Wales' stellar 2024 season saw her named in the All-Australian squad for the first time, in addition to finishing sixth in Hawthorn’s best and fairest count and claiming the club’s World Class Award for her commitment and improvement.

Hawthorn AFLW List Manager Keegan Brooksby said the club was delighted to see Wales put pen to paper.

“Lucy had a tremendous 2024 and it’s exciting to have her commit to the club for a further two seasons,” Brooksby said.

“Lucy is a crucial part of our program and is one of our most diligent workers. Last year she had a strong season and a huge impact on games for us, earning herself some well-deserved accolades.”
