Shaun Burgoyne
Round 10
26 possessions, 2 goals, 5 tackles, 5 clearances
In the lead-up to the Indigenous Round clash with Sydney, Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson suggested the battle between two of the greatest indigenous talents the game had ever seen, in Shaun Burgoyne and Lance Franklin, would add “intrigue” to this Round 10 match-up.
Well, the four-time premiership coach could not have been more correct.
Both Burgoyne and Franklin posed as their respective side’s match-winner throughout the entirety of this tightly-fought affair.
The AFL Coaches Association votes echoed this sentiment, awarding both players nine votes for their stellar games.
But it was Burgoyne who proved ultimately victorious, as he provided yet another incredible performance when his side needed it the most.
Burgoyne finished with 26 possessions, five tackles, five clearances and two all-important goals.
His second goal came with only minutes remaining in the match as he helped inspire the Hawks to a famous win away from home.
