Round 22 provided a great opportunity for the Hawthorn community department to offer a number of once in a lifetime experiences to some extremely passionate Hawks fans.

Club major sponsor, Tasmania, kindly donated the Toss the Coin experience to Down Syndrome Victoria, one of Hawthorn’s Community Partners. Down Syndrome Victoria put the call out to all of their members to find the biggest Hawks fan and there was no doubt that Tom Mitchell was the pick of the bunch! Tom travelled with his parents from country Victoria and relished in meeting his idol Sam Mitchell along with other players on the boundary line.

Through the generous support of Tasmania, the community department was also able to offer the opportunity to run through the banner to Challenge, supporting kids with cancer. Challenge offered the opportunity to a very excited Trent who ran through the banner with favourite player Luke Hodge.

Another of Hawthorn’s Community Partners,Good Beginnings, also enjoyed their day at the footy at Round 22. Over 80 people were bussed to the MCG from Gippsland, giving local families an opportunity to have a day out at the footy where they otherwise would not have been able to.

On top of this, hundreds of tickets for this match alone were distributed as a part of the Hawks Heroes program, allowing over 400 people to attend the match. Recipients included Hawthorn Community Partner The Rioli Fund, along with Sandhurst Marist Junior Football Club, the Youth Substance Abuse Service and the Thurgoona Community Auskick who came all the way from New South Wales.

Thanks again to major sponsor, Tasmania, who gave Trent and Tom an lifetime experience they will never forget.

Thanks also to those who have donated memberships over the year to the Hawks Heroes program. If you would like to enquire about donating 2010 memberships to the program, please email community@hawthornfc.com.au
