Father-son recruit Finn Maginness is set to make his AFL debut this Sunday against the Bulldogs.
His unveiling has been highly anticipated for several weeks, with Hawthorn fans regularly calling for the 19-year-old’s selection.
Maginness says he is pinching himself that his opportunity has finally arrived.
“I'm over the moon," he said, unable to wipe the smile from his face.
"It's something I've dreamed of for so long, and for it to finally happen... I just can't wait."
Maginness joined Hawthorn via the 2019 National Draft, with the Hawks matching North Melbourne’s bid at Pick 29.
He comes from strong football pedigree; his father Scott played 131 games for the Hawks, including the 1988 and 1989 premierships, and his father Norm played 64 games during the 1950s - including the Hawks' first finals series in 1957.
The youngest of the Maginness clan says he can't wait to walk in the footsteps of his father and grandfather.
"It's a bond that I'll have with my dad and grandpa forever, given that we've all played for the club, we've all pulled on the guernsey.
"To be able to say I'm a third generation Hawk is really awesome and it's something my family is really proud of."
A big-bodied midfielder with an impressive tank for endurance running, Maginness has spent his first 12 months at the club focusing on his running patterns and honing his midfield craft.
He describes himself as an inside midfielder who loves the contest.
"I'm an in and under sort of player, so getting the contested footy, handballing it out, tackling and then probably my running ability - working up and down the ground - is one of my strengths."
Maginness is Hawthorn's fifth debutant for the year, following Harry Jones (Round 5), Will Day (Round 6), Josh Morris (Round 6) and Damon Greaves (Round 16).
Hawthorn's full Round 17 team will be announced at 6.20pm tonight.
